In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul. – Psalm 138:3
Our
baby daughter was just weeks old when she was admitted to the hospital
with a fever around 105 degrees and symptoms that had us scared. Though
she had only been a part of our family for a short time, we
loved her dearly, and were deeply concerned. I made daily trips to the
hospital. There
was nothing I could do to make her illness go away, but I needed
to be close to her and to reassure myself of her welfare.
We soon learned that
she was a rubella baby. I had, somehow, contracted the disease when I
was carrying her and had passed it on to her before she
was even born. This also caused her to have spinal meningitis.
On one trip to visit
her at the hospital, the Lord brought a song to my mind. It spoke of our
Heavenly Father’s care for us and of how He watches over
us as a mother who watches over her baby, tenderly, each step of
the way. What a comfort that brought to my heart!
Today, over thirty
years have come and gone, and as I look at my healthy, beautiful
daughter, I know that she is our miracle. Back then, as I did everything
I could, the Lord did what I could not. He stood close by her
and touched her, and He gave me strength and grace for each day.
Sometimes we do not
know what lies ahead, but our Heavenly Father knows. We can trust Him to
take care of everything. He is watching over us daily.
He knows when we are sad, lonely, or concerned. He cares for us
and for those we love. What a comfort to be able to just pause and
remember that
whatever is going on, we are not alone. There is Someone
standing close by and waiting to lend a helping Hand.
