The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations. – 2 Peter 2:9
Several
years ago, I worked as a bookkeeper and faced a moral dilemma on the
job. I was given an instruction to falsify
a billing to a state agency. A struggle began within me; how should I
handle this sudden problem? What would happen if I refused to carry out
the instruction?
I began to pray and seek
God for a resolution, and He gave me a promise from the Scripture in 2
Peter 2:9. Only later did I learn that God had already
started to answer.
The day of billing finally
arrived, but the Lord had not resolved the situation as far as I could
tell. What was I going to do? I decided that after lunch
I would face the situation and let the administration know that I
would not carry out the instructions I had been given. At noon, a woman
came into
the office with a letter from the state agency I was to bill, and
she handed it to an administrator. As that person read the letter out
loud, tears
started falling down my cheeks, because I realized that this was
God’s answer to my prayer. The contents of the letter concerned the very
circumstances
I was facing, and the details of the situation were now in the open.
The administrative personnel saw my tears, and after I explained the
dilemma to
her, she immediately changed the policy that had created the
problem.
As Christians, we
sometimes face unexpected situations and, ultimately, we have to make
choices. It can be scary to step out in faith that God will go
before us, but we can rest on His promise that “all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called
according to his
purpose” (Romans 8:28).
God knows how to deliver His people. He
knows what circumstances are going to work together for our deliverance,
and as we
wait on Him and believe His Word, He will deliver us. What a comfort
to know that God always answers our prayers, and that He is always in
time.
