And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. – Genesis 1:25
As
I held the tiny, four-week-old puppy close to me, she licked my neck
and snuggled closely. I held two other puppies
also, but they were not quite so friendly. In the end, that act of
love won me over, and she was the one I chose to become my new pet. She
was still
too young to take home at the time, so one of the owners tied a
green ribbon around her neck to let others know that she was taken, and I
left her
with her “mommy.” I marked the day on my calendar when she would be
old enough to bring home with me.
Have you ever stopped to
think past the beauty of some of God’s creation, to the fine details He
incorporated in each being? This puppy, for instance,
was beautiful, but also incredibly unique. Her particular type of
canine makes a wonderful pet for families. They are very good with
children and learn
quickly. And she had her own personality, slightly different from
the others in her litter. Just imagine God creating such a loving
creature, one that
wants to please and is so gentle!
What a loving God we
serve, Who included in His creation animals that we can play with, laugh
at, and even learn from. They can provide comfort when no
one else seems to know what to say or do, and they help us to better
understand concepts like forgiveness and trust. Some have even
testified that
it was the unconditional love of an animal that helped them to
comprehend God’s unconditional love to mankind. And on top of all that,
animals offer
us endless entertainment! It is no accident that animals do silly
things that make us laugh until we cry—it is yet another aspect of God’s
love
for us. He made creation for us to enjoy, and it is good!
As we go about our day,
let’s think about the God who made this magnificent world, and thank Him
for all the different blessings it brings to our lives.
He truly is a loving Creator.
