🏳️‍🌈✝️ Dancing in the Holy City

05/10/2018

There was great rejoicing in Yerushalayim, for since the time of King Shlomo son of David of Yisrael nothing like it had happened in Yerushalayim
II Chronicles 30:26 (The Israel Bible™)

In the Bible, there are many instances of dance being used as an expression of joy and thanksgiving. One of the most famous instances of dance in the Bible is Miriam and the Israelite women dancing in jubilation after their deliverance from Egypt. The book of Psalms also speaks of dance as an expression of joy among the residents of Yerushalayim (Jerusalem). As we approach Jerusalem Day, the 51st anniversary of the reunification of Yerushalayim, this same feeling of joy and jubilation can be felt throughout the Holy City.

Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron [and Moses], took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her with timbrels and dancing. Exodus 15:20
Let them praise His name with dancing;
Let them sing praises to Him with the tambourine and lyre. Psalm 149:3

When you let go of self and let God reign in your life freedom to dance before your King is a joy that is beyond anything this world has to offer.  Throughout the book of Psalm we learn that the people of God praised Him with drums and cymbals and trumpets. The people were encouraged to worship God loudly.

Praise God with drum and dance!
    Praise God with strings and pipe!Praise God with loud cymbals!
    Praise God with clashing cymbals! Let every living thing praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord! Psalm 150:4-6

In the book of Samuel we get to witness a King named David  rejoicing with dance as the Ark of the Covenant was being brought into the city of David.

Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David with rejoicing and gladness. And when those who were carrying the ark of the Lord [by its poles] had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling. And David was dancing before the Lord with great enthusiasm, and David was wearing a linen ephod [a priest’s upper garment]. So David and all the house of Israel were bringing the ark of the Lord up [to the City of David] with shouts [of joy] and with the sound of the trumpet.Then, as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter [David’s wife], looked down from the window above and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she felt contempt for him in her heart [because she thought him undignified]. They brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts (armies), and distributed to all the people, the entire multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to each a [ring-shaped] loaf of bread, a cake of dates, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people departed, each to his house. Then David returned to bless his household. But [his wife] Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How glorious and distinguished was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself and stripped [off his kingly robes] in the eyes of his servants’ maids like one of the riffraff who shamelessly uncovers himself!” So David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord [that I did this], who chose me above your father and his entire house, to appoint me as ruler over Israel, the people of the Lord. Therefore I will celebrate [in pure enjoyment] before the Lord. Yet I will demean myself even more than this, and will be humbled (abased) in my own sight [and yours, as I please], but by the maids whom you mentioned, by them I shall be held in honor.” Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death. 2 Samuel 6:12-23

 I encourage all the followers of God to let go of your pride and worship your Lord God with singing, dancing and loud music. I encourage you to let God know how much you love Him with your worship. May the peace of God rest upon you as you learn to let go of all the stuff that keeps you bound up. Be free in the Lord to dance as David danced before the Lord.

Dance children of God Dance!!!

Blessings and Peace,
