How
amazing it is to learn from studying the Word of God how GREAT our Heavenly Father
and His Son Jesus Christ are. Knowing that our Heavenly Father never changes
should bring so much joy into our hearts because we have just learned that we
have a Heavenly Father who cares so much for us. He cared so much for us that
He sent His Son to die on a cross to cover our multitude of sins. He cared so
much for us that He sent us a comforter {The Holy Spirit} to teach us and give
us guidance because Jesus Christ rose from the dead and now sits with the
Father in Heaven mediating for our souls daily. It is through Jesus Christ that
we are able to enter into the Holy of Holies having direct communication with
our Heavenly Father. It is also through Jesus Christ we are able to experience
PERFECT PEACE through all the tribulations we face in this world {John 16:33}.
As
we continue today we will now look at the POWERFUL NAMES of GOD from the OLD
TESTAMENT that will give us more insight into just how GREAT our GOD is and how GREAT He can be in our lives. May our
hearts be filled with such love and admiration for our God that we are able to
sing the song of the sons of Korah found in Psalm 48! Let this next section give your
spirit a super charge as you learn how POWERFUL these names were to the people
of that time as well as how POWERFUL they will be when you use them in your own
life today.
POWERFUL Names of God from the Old Testament
1.
Elohim – God the
Creator {Genesis 1:1, 2:3}
2.
El-Elyon – God
Most High {Genesis 14:18, Genesis 14:22}
3.
El-Kanna –
Jealous {Exodus 34:14}
I
don’t know about you my friend, but I can tell you that this ignites a fire in
my spirit knowing just how POWERFUL the names of God are to our every day
existence. We serve a God who is the Great I AM, our deliverer, our rock, our
shelter and I could go on and on. It is so POWERFUL just to know that through
JESUS CHRIST we have access to our POWERFUL Heavenly Father.
Right
now you may be thinking that all this POWER stuff is great but what about all
those “LAWS” that are mentioned in the Bible? Yes, without the blood of Jesus
covering our sins there would be an abundance of “LAWS” that NO man or woman
could ever keep; however we have a Savior who became the “LAW” so through a
relationship with HIM we have forgiveness from sin and the freedom from the
LAW. That does not mean there are still not Commandments we must keep {Ten Commandments}. Let us take a unique look at how
the LAWS of GOD are actually a REFLECTION of the “Characteristics” of God. This
will help us better understand God and even give us a better understanding of
the Laws of God as we apply them to our lives.
How God’s Law Is a Mirror of God’s Character
Here
are just a few Attributes of God that will be used to show you how God’s Law is
a Mirror of God’s Character. As you study this chart I pray it will help you
better understand how the many Attributes {Characteristics} of God reflect
God’s Law making it easier to understand why it is so important to follow the
Laws of God in order to fully honor God in ALL our ways.
Here is a quick look at just a few of the many “Characteristics” of God consistent from Old Testament to New Testament to show the consistency of our Heavenly Father. As you continue your study of the Word of God I am sure the Holy Spirit will start revealing many more of these consistencies with you.
I
know I have given you a lot to consider today my friends, but I feel it is time
for the children of God to come off the bottle and start enjoying the meat of
the TRUTH from God’s Word. I encourage you to keep this study handy so you can
refer back to it often as you continue your journey living for Christ Jesus. I
pray that the Holy Spirit will teach you all that you need to know from the
Word of God about God so you will better honor Him in the life you lead.
And
I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter,
Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you
forever—
the
Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its
heart] because
it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy
Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you. John 14:16-17
But
the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby),
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to
represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And
He will help you remember everything that I have told you. John 14:26
But
I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not
go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener,
Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit)
to you
[to be in close fellowship with you]. And He, when He comes, will convict
the world about
[the guilt of] sin [and the need for a
Savior], and
about righteousness, and about judgment: about sin [and the true nature
of it], because
they do not believe in Me [and My message]; about righteousness [personal integrity
and godly character],because
I am going to My Father and you will no longer see Me; about judgment [the certainty of it],
because
the ruler of this world (Satan) has been judged and condemned. John 16:7-11
As
you can see the Holy Spirit also plays a POWERFUL role in your daily life.
Thank God that through the Salvation of Christ Jesus we are able to receive the
POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT operating through our lives.
I
encourage you to apply the Law’s of God to your life through the POWER of the
Holy Spirit giving you the strength to endure all the fiery darts of the enemy
of God – Satan and his demons. May the love and light of Jesus Christ shine
through your life as you continue this journey with the Father, the Son, and
the Holy Spirit!!!
Forever
in Christ Jesus service,
As
promised here is the list of over 300 names associated with God and Jesus from
the Old Testament and the New Testament. Remember the more you know about God
the more satisfied you are with keeping His commandments and the easier it is
to share His Son Jesus Christ with others. It is my prayer this lesson will
bring you closer to God and Jesus as you learn more about how POWERFUL and
MAJESTIC the names that represent them can be for your life.
