And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times? – Matthew 16:3
Three
weeks ago, our neighbors started tearing old shingles from their roof
because it had to be replaced. Except for a few very light sprinkles, it
had not rained through the months of July and August. Now it was
early September, so there was a greater chance that rain would come.
We watched the progress
of the new roof, which only halted one weekend for a family reunion. It
had seemed the family was doing much of the work themselves,
but then we noticed new shingles stacked up on the roof and a
professional roofing crew on the job. Even so, it seemed the project was
going slowly,
but at least the sun was still shining every day.
Then the weather report
predicted rain, and there were heavy clouds in the sky. The roof was
partly shingled with blue tarps over the rest. As my husband
and I walked one morning, we passed the house again and worried
aloud as to whether the rest of the roof would be on before the dark
clouds above
actually dropped some moisture. Soon we could tell that our
neighbors were also realizing they were at risk of showers falling
inside the living
room and bedroom, which were yet uncovered. It was time for
haste!
The roof was finished just ahead of a good downpour. When the rain came, our neighbors were ready.
We know the Lord is
coming back; all the signs point to it. The “clouds” are heavy and
lowering. Jesus said, “When you see these signs, look up for
your redemption draweth nigh.” We need to look around at what is
happening. Consider the events transpiring in
Israel and the
Middle East. Think about the earthquakes, pestilences, and
wars that were prophesied to take place in the last days. The “rains”
are coming,
and the time for haste is now! Get ready and stay ready
because Jesus is coming soon.
