To substitute Scripture for the self-revealing Spirit is to put the dead letter in the place of the Living Word. Sebastian FranckSuzanne DeWitt Hall, Where True Love Is

It is not often that you come across a book that is so compelling and full of the TRUTH. I know I have talked a lot about this book - Where True Love Is, by Suzanne DeWitt Hall and I am sure you will continue to hear from about the book. Suzanne has done a superb job of putting together daily devotionals that touch your soul and help you see yourself as your Creator sees you. These devotionals will teach you things you have never seen before or you will have an AH- HA moment everyday because Suzanne was definitely be lead by the Holy Spirit when writing this book. When I read today's devotional I knew I had to share it with you. As easy as it would be to put these daily devotionals online, I feel you really need to purchase the book for everyone you care about including your Pastor. May the Spirit of God open your hearts and minds as you read this Day 4: Living and Active devotional from Where True Love Is, by Suzanne DeWitt Hall. Amen, Rainbow Pastor David

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
Evangelical Christians often proclaim the Scriptures are ALIVE while simultaneously demanding they are unchanging and unchangeable. But let's look at what it means to have LIFE:
The condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally.
While this definition applies to organisms, the logic is transferable. If the Scriptures are alive, they they can't be unchanging. The only things which don't change are those that are already dead or never contained life in the first place.
The act of living is a process of transformation and change on all sorts of levels. In the case of a plant, water permeates a seed and swells the cells until they burst forth as a shoot and push out into the air. Then air, water and light are transformed into energy and growth occurs. Eventually flowers come and more seeds are produced and then the plant dies and decomposes and the process of change moves on to some other life form.
The process is similar for pretty much ALL LIFE: insemination, birth, growth, response to stimuli, death. Only dead things don't grow and adapt to the environment. Dead things merely rot.
So LISTEN UP, Conservative Evangelical Christians: you have to choose. Either the scriptures are Unchanging and therefore DEAD, or they are LIVING and therefore EQUIPPED for CHANGE and ADAPTATION, through the power of the HOLY SPIRIT.
I hope you enjoyed that eye opening devotion as much as I did. If you have enjoyed the excerpts I use and then of course a full devotional please go support our Sister in Christ, Suzanne DeWitt Hall and purchase you and your friends copies at Amazon, here
